Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a CB-618 #8 Soft Fan, apply 1 liberal coat of SP-216 Speckled Cotton Tail over the entire platter -- front and back. Allow to dry.
  3. Using a pencil, sketch on the checkerboard pattern to the plate.
  4. Using an RB-108 #8 Flat Shader and SC-74 Hot Tamale, create the chekerboard border.  Do this by positioning the flat brush approximately half way into the rim, set it down and pull directly backwards.  Then, lining up to the edge of the check you just made, do the same thing only this time set the brush down next to the edge of the rim closest to the plate and pull directly back to the beginning of the first check. Repeat this around the entire platter.  The checks WILL NOT be perfectly spaced.  So, make due and be flexible as you create your checkerboard.
  5. Now, move to your flower bowl.  Double load a RB-108 #8 Flat Shader with SC-75 Orange-A-Peel and SC-74 Hot Tamale. With the SC-74 Hot Tamale side positioned towards the outer edge of a petal, make sweeping strokes that mimic one half of the shape of a heart or the top of a "2." Repeat this on both sides of each petal on both the front and back of the dish.
  6. Using a CB-210 #10/0 Detail Liner, dab SC-14 Java Bean alternating with SC-34 Down to Earth in the center of the flower.
  7. Using a RB-108 #8 Flat Shader apply 1 thin coat of SC-16 Cotton Tail to the center of each petal.
  8. Now, move to the bumble bee. Using a CB-210 #10/0 Detail Liner, paint the body and head of the bee with SC-24 Dandelion and SC-15 Tuxedo. Alternate the colors for the stripes and make a black head. Apply a wash of SC-12 Moody Blue to the wings.
  9. Using AC-306 Clay Mender, attach the flower bowl to one corner of the platter.
  10. Next, using AC-306 Clay Mender attach the bee near the center of the platter.
  11. Make a curly line indicating the bee's flight pattern extending from the flower to the bee. Using a CB-210 #10/0 Detail Liner and SC-15 Tuxedo diluted with a touch of water to achieve a thin smooth line.
  12. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
