Mayco distributors operate wholesale warehouses that stock and sell larger quantities (case lots) of product. They serve customers who are primarily business and/or institutional accounts, such as retail ceramic studios, school systems, parks and recreation programs, etc. They will usually stock and/or have on display kilns, potter's wheels, extruders and other large scale equipment. Most also offer retail sales and services similar to those listed above.
Retail stores are primarily focused on selling ceramic and pottery supplies. Retail stores and teaching studios - some specializing in potter supplies, others focused on traditional slip cast ceramics and some who do it all - serve their local community with product supplies and classes.
Traditional ceramic shops would be well versed in the use of casting molds, greenware decoration (unfired ceramic ware), acrylic colors as well as fired glazes. They may conduct classes in their retail store or have arrangements with local teachers working from their home studios.
Pottery supplies retailers are experts on hand building and wheel thrown clay art. You can expect to find a variety of clay bodies, equipment, raw chemicals, and glazes in these locations. Wheel classes, studio space rental (hourly, monthly, etc.) toll firing (will do bisque and glaze firing for a fee) are some of the additional services you may find here.
Retail partners are required to have a federal tax ID and state vendor certificate/license.
Looking to make a unique gift, an item for your home, or something special to commemorate and event? Ceramic Studios are here to help. Not an artist? Not a problem. Studios can create custom designs for you, teach you techniques in classes, and help guide you with painting and glazing ideas. Looking for a unique birthday party for the kids or a fun night out with the girls? Many studios offer event planning, open studio time, and Pottery To Go so you can create that masterpiece on your own time. Paint Your Own Pottery Studios provide bright and stimulating environments where you select undecorated ceramic bisque, sit at a work station and glaze the piece. In addition to fired bisque some studios offer slipcast greenware - made from molds, unfired - which provides additional decorating opportunities. Others offer pottery classes - both hand building or wheel throwing, allowing you to make your own shapes and vessels. And glass slumping is also available at many of the studios listed below. |
