Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of FN-037 Chartreuse to the top of the plate. Allow to dry.
  3. Cut out the tulips with the stems and leaves. Pencil in the placement of the flowers on the plate.
  4. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply 2 coats of FN-004 Red to the flower head, fading to FN-003 Orange towards the top directly onto the piece.
  5. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Line, apply FN-010 Tree Green to the stems and leaves, highlighting with FN-007 Green.
  6. Place the cut out flower form over the proper flower, brush some water under the paper cut out flower then press down with paper towel to get the paper to stick.  This will act as a mask so that the background can be painted.
  7. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, brush over the edges of the paper with more of the FN-037 Chartreuse, so that it will cover any color from the flowers and leaves that could be peeking through at the edges of the paper.
  8. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, dry brush FN-017 Purple over areas to the sides of the tulips to shade, brushing in an upward direction. Add FN-037 Chartreuse to the brush with a little of FN-001 White to lighten the background near the top of the plate. Apply 2 coats.
  9. For the lower area of the plate, Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan and a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply FN-010 Tree Green, with a dry brush stoke apply the color in an upward direction.  Add some FN-009 Black to FN-010 Tree Green to deepen the green and repeat with a dry brush stroke. Pull up brush to end strokes so to resemble blades of grass.
  10. Remove the all the paper cutouts before the last coat of glaze dries to avoid chipping.
  11. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2-3 coats of FN-009 Black to the back of the plate. Allow to dry.
  12. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
