Design inspired by Tim Burton's "Nightmare Before Christmas"

1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
2. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of FN-009 Black over the pattern's eyes & mouth, on top of MB-894 - Funky Bowl. Allow to dry.
3. With a pencil and AC-230 Clay Carbon Paper, trace the pattern on the bowl. You will need 2 copies of the pattern.
4. Cut the eyes and mouth from the pumpkin, the eyes from the goblin, and the eye from the cat.
5. Cut out from the second pattern, the pumpkin shape, cat, bat, and goblin.
6. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply 1 coat of SC-16 Cotton Tail to the eyes and mouth of the pumpkin and the head of the goblin.
7. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply SC-75 Orange-A-Peel, streaking in some SC-6 Sunkissed to the eyes and mouth of the pumpkin.
8. Brush the back of the paper cut outs of the eyes and the mouth with the same colors, trying to place the SC-6 Sunkissed and SC-75 Orange-A-Peel in approximately the same spot.
9. Place the paper over the same painted eyes and mouth on the bowl. Press lightly to set in place, and then wait a minute before pressing firmly. This will remove air bubbles and allow the glaze to adhere to the plate from the paper.
10. Apply 1 coat of SC-74 Hot Tamale to the cat's eye.
11. Place the paper cat in position on the plate. Lift a section of the cat to brush the plate with some water, then let the paper touch the plate. Press in the paper to the moistened glaze, making sure the paper lays flat without any gaps. Repeat for the bat.
12. Brush the plate with some water over the position of the cat's tail. Lay down the piece of eyelash yarn and pat or brush with more water to position the strands. Soak up excess water with a paper towel, then apply FN-009 Black to secure the yarn to the plate.
13. Apply 1 coat of SC-16 Cotton Tail to the goblin's head on the plate.
14. Brush the back of the paper of the eyes with a little SC-6 Sunkissed and SC-27 Sour Apple. Fill in the rest with SC-16 Cotton Tail then press in position on the head. Press lightly at first, but you must press firmly in a minute or two.
15. Brush the backside of the paper head with streaks of SC-28 Blue Isle and SC-27 Sour Apple in the forehead area, and SC-13 Grapel in the mouth area. Fill in the rest with SC-16 Cotton Tail. Press to the plate and finish as in the directions above.
16. For the goblin's body, just brush the back side of the paper with the stripes in SC-16 Cotton Tail with a little SC-33 Fruit of the Vine and leave the black stripe. Press the paper in position.
17. Measure and cut the cheesecloth to fit over the stem of the pumpkin and off the plate. Cut a piece to fit over the goblin's neck stopping at the cat's leg and up over the cat's head then off the side of the plate. Cut another small piece to go over the bats space. Refer to the picture.
18. Wet the cheesecloth, squeeze out excess water and spread the cheesecloth over the areas mentioned above. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply a thinned coat of FN-009 Black, brushing out the edges so they look ragged.
19. Soak up excess glaze as it is drying with a paper towel.
20. In the space of the pumpkin, with uneven brush strokes, brush in some SC-75 Orange-A-Peel and SC-33 Fruit of the Vine on the forehead, side, and little under the mouth, leave the majority of the pumpkin black.
21. Cut out the shape of the pumpkin from the pattern, wet the paper then place in postion on the plate. Brush the edges of the paper and the plate (where they meet) with FN-009 Black to secure the paper to the plate.
22. Brush the background of the plate with SC-28 Blue Isle and SC-33 Fruit of the Vine, blending the colors when they meet. To lighten the SC-28 Blue Isle, use some SC-16 Cotton Tail on the SC-28 Blue Isle under and above the cat's head. Add in some SC-13 Grapel to brighten in a few spots. The background needs 2 coats.
23. Add some SC-75 Orange-A-Peel under the pumpkin.
24. At the bottom of the plate near the goblin, apply SC-33 Fruit of the Vine and SC-75 Orange-A-Peel on a scrap of paper and press to the plate for added interest.
25. When the shine leaves the glaze, remove the cheesecloth and all the paper. Use a pin and tweezers to help.
26. Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner outline the goblin's head and eyes, detail the eyes and mouth with stitching, and add in the neck, with SC-15 Tuxedo.
27. Additional texture was added with fabric that has small holes. Cut out small fabric pieces, brush areas with a little water, lay on the fabric, wait until it dries, then brush over with SC-15 Tuxedo.
28. Using a stiff toothbrush, spatter SC-36 Irish Luck and SC-15 Tuxedo on the piece.
29. Finish the base the same as the background with the cheesecloth. Apply 2 coats of FN-009 Black, then spread the moistened cheesecloth over the base. Brush back with a thinned coat of FN-009 Black. Let it almost dry, then apply 2 coats of SC-28 Blue Isle, blending into SC-33 Fruit of the Vine and adding in some SC-75 Orange-A-Peel.
30. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06. Fire the base and the top together in the firing to get it to adhere to each other.
