Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a No. 2 pencil, section off your platter into various sized rectangles and squares. Make sure you make the "patches" intended for handprints and/or footprints large enough to accommodate the prints.
  3. Once you have finished penciling in your patches, select the colors you want your quilt to be. Select light colors for the background of each "patch" and darker colors for any details or embellishments you want to add to the patches. (Choose colors from the Stroke & Coat line).
  4. Also, remember to paint three coats if you want your colors dark and solid. (This rule does not apply to a handprint - you only want to do the print once).
  5. Apply handprint - the darker the color the better your handprint will turn out.
  6. Once you have painted and decorated all of your patches, personalize your piece with names, dates and any personal message you choose. If you want thick block letters, it is a good idea to pencil them in first and then paint them with glaze using CB-404  #4 Pointed Round.
  7. Once you have finished painting and writing, it is time to add your stitching.
  8. Use Stroke & Coat Accents (SA-001,002, or 003) to create stitching.
  9. Mimicking the look of a stitch, make short, straight lines around each patch until all of the patches have been "stitched".
  10. Apply Clear Glaze (optional). Allow to dry.
  11. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
