Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Place S-2101 Clear Brushing Glaze into a small cup and add water to slightly dilute (about 3 parts glaze and 1 part water). It should be the consistency of coffee cream. Pour the diluted glaze into the vase and roll around to completely coat the interior of the vase. Drain out the excess glaze and keep vase inverted until the glaze has lost its shine. Wipe off any glaze from the outside of the vase using a damp sponge.
  3. Using a pencil to create a outline of the  "big" design.  Optional: find a pattern and use AC-230 Clay Carbon Paper to trace the pattern onto the vase.
  4. Go over the pattern lines with SG-401 Designer Liner to outline.
  5. Use SG-401 Designer Liner to fill in ("doodle") in the different areas of the pictures. It is better to work free hand than to try and draw out the design first. Doodle patterns can be found on the Internet, and a number of books are available with pattern ideas.
  6. Once the SG-401 Designer Liner is dry to the touch, use a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, to fill the areas of the design with color. Use color diluted slightly with water to create a wash. This gives a watercolor effect, and allows for painting only 1 coat of each color.
  7. Using a CB-404 #4 Pointed Round brush, glaze the background of the picture and the other side of the vase with a diluted wash of Blue Yonder. On this vase, the SC-11 Blue Yonder was diluted to different consistencies and applied haphazardly, to give the appearance of a cloudy sky.
  8. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of S-2101 Crystal Clear Brushing Glaze to the outside of vase.  Allow to dry.
  9. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 05/06.
