Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Place some FN-009 Black into a small cup and add a little bit of water to slightly dilute it (about 3 parts glaze and 1 part water). It should be the cosistancy of a coffee cream. Pour this into the hat and roll around to completely coat the interior of the hat. Drain out the excess glaze and keep the hat inverted until it has lost its shine. Wipe off any glaze from the brim with a damp sponge. Allow to dry.
  3. With a CB-604 Soft Fan, brush 4 coats of FN-022 Tan to the hat. Let dry.
  4. Place some SC-15 Tuxedo on a palette or tile and sprinkle with AC-310 SIlkscreen Medium. Using a palette knide mix color and medium to the consistency of thick peanut butter. If the mix is too thin add more AC-310 Silkscreen Medium or if too thick add more Stroke & Coat. Too thin a mixture will bleed under the screen and give you a blurred image. Too thick a mixture will make it hard for the product to penetrate through the holes in the screen and give you blank areas in your screen. You can use SG-401 Black Designer Liner for more color saturation.
  5. With the shiny side down, place the screen of the train from DSS-117 Retro at the bottom of the hat. Hold in place, starting from the center out, rub the Tuxedo mixture on the screen with your finger. Do not discard the remaining mixture.
  6. Place some S-2101 Clear on a palette or tile. Add some red food coloring and sprinkle AC-310 Silkscreen Medium to thicken the mixture, the same in step #4.
  7. Use the pipe screens from DSS-125 Steampunk to screen pipes with the mix of the clear glaze tinted with red food coloring. Start from the trains stack and wind your way around conecting various pipe screens. This will act as a guide for color.
  8. With CB-106 Script Liner, brush two coats of SC-60 Silver Lining to the pipes. Let Dry.
  9. Screen over the pipes with the thickened SC-15 Tuxedo.
  10. Screen the gears on the brim of the hat with the thickened SC-15 Tuxedo.
  11. Pencil in lines on the inside and outside of the hat brim at an angle to look like strips of leather.
  12. Use SG-403 Red to fill in the pencil lines, and outline around the beginning and end of the line so it looks like a grommet with SG-401 Black.
  13. Because the Designer Liner needs a clear glaze, brush one coat on top using a CB-604 Soft Fan with S-2101 Clear.
  14. Stilt and fire to cone 05/06.
  15. Use the 3/4 inch flange, connect the various pipe parts, end with a cap.
  16. Epoxy to the bottom of the hat to create a rod to hold the toilet paper.
