1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
2. Using the ½" Masking Tape to frame the picture as a masking agent over border. Condition a moistened CB-406 #6 Pointed Round with AC-525 Brush Cleaner. Do not rinse. Apply AC-303 Liquid Mask to the buildings and cypress trees in the foreground. Once completed, wash the brush immediately with AC-525 Brush Cleaner and warm water. Let the mask dry.
3. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan loaded with thinned SC-11 Blue Yonder tip one side of the brush with thinned SC-2 Melon-Choly. Starting at the tops of the mountains, paint in the sky in long sweeping stokes as directed in the pattern arrows.
4. On a large tile place SC-43 Lettuce Alone, SC-25 Crackerjack, SC-39 Army Surplus, SC-36 Irish Luck and SC-63 Popeye's Favorite. The mountains in the distance are painted first. They are the lightest. Starting with thinned SC-43 Lettuce Alone, flood in one section of a mountain using CB-406 #6 Pointed Round. You can change the tone of the mountain with any of the other colors at any time. Using some of the other thinned colors, you can add the shading to the mountain. As you move down from the top (furthest back) mountain vary the color schemes using the other colors slightly. You want to use color that contrast slightly with each hill and mountain.
5. As you progress down from the top, there are three distinct cultivated fields. The furthest field is SC- 43 Lettuce Alone flooded into the area. While the color is still wet, load CB-110 #10/0 Liner and paint in the cultivated rows using thinned SC-39 Army Surplus.
6. The middle area is flooded with thinned SC-25 Crackerjack. While the color is wet, load CB-604 #4 Soft Fan with thinned SC-39 Army Surplus and standing the brush up on end, dab in the rows to the fields using the lines in the pattern as a guide.
7. The foreground area of cultivated land is flooded with thinned SC-43 Lettuce Alone tinted with some SC-39 Army Surplus using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan. While the color is wet, load the fan with some SC-36 Irish Luck and SC-63 Popeye's Favorite, standing the brush up on end, paint in the furrows to the fields keeping the contour of the hill.
8. Remove the mask from the houses and cypress trees also the masking tape from the frame. Redraw the roof line to the houses. Using CB-110 #10/0 Liner paint in a thin watery coat of SC-74 Hot Tamale to the roof. Apply thinned SC-74 Hot Tamale to one side of the roof to darken. To one side of the house apply a thin watery coat of SC-60 Silver Lining to shade the shadows on the walls. Apply thinned SC-15 to the windows of the houses. Keep this color thin and apply just enough to mark the window areas.
9. To the foliage around the house, bushes, trees and cypress trees behind the houses use SC-36 Irish Luck and SC-63 Popeye's Favorite using CB-110 Liner.
10. To the two cypress trees in the foreground apply a thin wash of SC-63 Popeye's Favorite vertically in short strokes. Keep apply layers of color to give depth and shape to the foliage. To the trucks of the trees apply SC-25 Crackerjack darkened with a bit of SC-63 Popeye's Favorite. To the shadows that are cast onto the ground from the cypress trees, apply a very watery thin coat of SC-63 Popeye's Favorite.
11. Using CB-406 #6 apply one thin coat of SC-32 Bluebeard to some of the olives in the border. Paint over this color leaving a highlight on each olive using SC-15 Tuxedo. To the other olives apply to thin coats of SC-25 Crackerjack. Using CB-310 Flat Shader side loaded with SC-25 Crackerjack mixed with SC-74 Hot Tamale shade the olives on one side about 2/3 of each olive.
12. For the olive leaves in the border, load CB-406 #6 Pointed Round with SC-52 Toad-ily Green side loaded with SC-39 Army Surplus. Using a point-pressure-point stroke, paint in each leaf with one coat. The stems of the olives and leaves are SC-39 Army Surplus tinted with a bit of SC-25 Crackerjack.
13. To outline the leaves in the border, using AC-222 Writer Tip with SC-39 Army Surplus. Quickly but carefully outline all of the leave and add the center veins. If you do this quickly you will get a broken line of color which is what you want. Rinse tip after use.
14. Using the AC-222 Writer Tip with SC-74 Hot Tamale apply a line of color around the center picture and towards the outside edge of the plate. The color does not go over the leaves, but breaks for them. Try to keep the edges straight and even when applying this color. Let the plate dry.
15. Apply Clear Glaze.
16. Stilt and fire to Shelf Cone 06.
