Mudcrack | Magma | Cobblestone | Snowfall
Application
- Shake vigorously upon opening. Continue to shake and stir to increase fluidity to the consistency of cream.
- For shown chip results, apply directly to bisqueware.
- Apply 2-3 coats. Allow glaze to semi-dry between coats.
- The thicker the application, the more textured the surface will be.
- If the glaze does not crack on the piece before firing, it will not crack after firing.
- Due to the surface texture, we recommend that these glazes only be used on decorative surfaces.
- Mudcrack can be applied over Stoneware Gloss glazes for a slightly flatter texture. *See photo below.
- Mudcrack can be used in combination with other Stoneware glazes to achieve different textures and effects. We recommend testing prior to use.

Application
- Shake and stir well.
- For shown chip results, apply directly to bisqueware.
- Apply 2-3 coats. Allow glaze to semi-dry between coats.
- The thicker the application, the more textured the surface will be. A thicker application can be achieved by blotting or dotting the glaze onto the piece. *See photo below.
- Light Magma does not crater as much as the Dark Magma. We suggest using up to 5 coats to increase Light Magma texture.
- Can be applied with slip trailer.
- Due to the surface texture, we recommend that these glazes only be used on decorative surfaces. You may experience slight crumbling.
- Black Magma will fume to other pieces in the kiln. We suggest using a soft brick in between pieces or use on its own kiln shelf.
- Magmas can be used in combination with other Stoneware glazes to achieve different textures and effects. We recommend testing prior to use.

Cobblestone
SG-201 Black Cobblestone and SG-202 White Cobblestone create textured “cobbled” surfaces when fired. Although Cobblestones were designed to be fired to cone 06, Cobblestones may be fired to higher temperatures to add a unique look to mid-range fire designs. When fired to cone 6, Cobblestone will turn glossy and flatten out.
Application
- Shake for 5-6 seconds before use.
- Dispense glaze onto a palette (tile, plate, etc.) and apply 2 coats with a broad, soft brush, such as a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan Brush.
- Apply the second coat while the first coat is still damp: do not allow Cobblestone to dry between coats.
- Pattern break-up is determined by the application direction of the brush stroke. Heavier application - large break-up; lighter application - small breakup.
- If the application is too light the cobblestone will not break up. Reapplying and touching up will not achieve a break-up.
- To create colored Cobblestones, brush Stroke & Coat® glaze of choice over the white Cobblestone and fire.
- Fire to shelf cone 6 or higher.
Snowfall
SG-302 Snowfall is a dimensional glaze that creates a white, textured surface. Snowfall is a non-moving glaze and, as such, application methods have an impact on the fired result. Although Snowfall was designed to be fired to cone 06, Snowfall may be fired to higher temperatures to add a puffy texture to mid-range fire designs. Snowfall will perform the same in mid-range firings.
Application
- Mix well. Apply 2 to three coats over unfired glazes, shelf cone 04 bisque (1060°C), greenware or clay.
- Can be applied with a soft brush, sponge slip trailer, or writer tip for texture variations.
- For a 3-dimensional design, use snowfall over a Mayco Stencil.
- To create colored snowfall, brush Foundations® glaze of choice over the white snowfall and fire.
- Fire to shelf cone 6 or higher.
The choice of clay body, thickness of glaze application, firing process and temperature will affect the fired results. Always test in your kiln and on your clay body.
