Arriving to the 2016 National Art Educators Association National Convention (NAEA) in Chicago, Illinois this past month, I felt instantly inspired by the wonderfully creative environment!

The outstanding galleries of 2D and 3D art from students of all ages across the country represented the importance of the National Art Educators Association. This year, the annual event provided innovative programming for art educators to continue development within the classroom, gain a variety of knowledge from 150+ vendor booths, in addition to hands-on workshops and in-booth make and take projects.

Art teachers have always presented a unique, artistic perspective, and during the NAEA Conference, this couldn’t be more accurate. With creativity surrounding, the Mayco booth fit right in, bursting with bold colors and wonderfully innovative project inspirations. Cassie Stephens (of cassiestephens.blogspot.com), pictured left, also fit right in with the Mayco booth by designing and wearing an ensemble inspired by the early 1920’s artist Piet Mondrian, perfectly matching our Modernist clay sculpture glazed with the bright colors of Stroke & Coat®.

Teachers continued the excitement for art education at our Make and Take table where I guided the use of Designer Stencils and Designer Silkscreens with Stroke & Coat® glazes to create unique surface decoration on bisque tiles, as shown below. NAEA Make n TakeWhile teacher’s used images from DSS-0113 Bugs to easily screen print directly onto bisque, they also learned of other creative ways to use Designer Silkscreens on clay or even fabric, paper, wood and other mixed-media. The SL-431 Bloom Stencil, used with SC-11 Blue Yonder, created a lovely background image with the bee screen printed (DSS-0113 Bugs) multiple times enhancing the surface. Art Educators were able to get their paintbrushes dirty and feel how user-friendly Mayco Creative Tools and Stroke & Coat® glazes are as well as learn of the versatile use with clay and on bisque for their classroom. Explaining how Stroke & Coat® glazes are consistent, fire glossy and are intermixable for custom shades and tints, teachers became very excited about the Wonderglaze for their classroom and some teachers even shared how ordering Stroke & Coat® glazes have saved them a lot of time and a big part of their yearly budget!

Also a bit hit were the Mayco Raffles! I would like to congratulate Rachel Motta of LaVergne, Tennessee for winning the Elements™ Class Pack and Meg Skow of Summerville, SC for winning the Stroke & Coat® Class Pack. For your chance to win a Mayco Raffle, be sure to visit and bookmark the Mayco Events page for Art Educators to see the schedule of State Conferences we will be attending, continuing to inspire Art Educators with conference workshops and in-booth Make 'n Take projects!
