Underglazes are a very popular and often used product in the school market. Mayco recently introduced our newly reformulated Underglazes at the NAEA Conference in Baltimore. Educators were quite interested in this product line because of their broad and consistent performance range, bright, vivid palette, and friendly to the budget pricing.
As reformulation was necessary due to the obsolescence of NY Talc and elimination of talc from our formulations, we took the opportunity to improve some of the performance characteristics:
Firing RangeMayco Underglazes can be fired from 06 to 6, with many of the colors sustaining at cone 9/10, including reds, oranges and yellows.
Body Compatibility
Underglazes can be applied to either clay or bisque.
Versatility of Application
We recommend that you apply 2-3 coats for opacity. But, these underglazes are well pigmented for intricate and fine detail brushwork.
Co-firing with Clear Glaze
If desired, apply both underglaze and clear glaze to matured bisque and fire for a smooth gloss finish.
Inter-mixable
Missing the exact shade? Create your own colors by fully intermixing Underglazes.
Non-toxic
Underglazes are safe for artists of all ages. Apply clear glaze for use on dinnerware surfaces.
Afraid of reds? Not to worry any longer! The palette consists of three no fail reds - Fire Engine Red, Flame Red and Dragon Red.
