Implementing Stoneware Programs

Lisa DolenaWhen Lisa Haas, co-owner of Art From The Art, returned from 2013 Pottery Camp in Atlanta she discussed the stoneware project she completed with her business partner, Dolena Sinclair.  A feature of stoneware bisque that stuck in both their minds was the microwave/dishwasher safe proposition.

"We've seen long faces on many a customer when we tell them their earthenware mug may not survive repeated microwave heatings," Dolena said.  "In the short period of time since we've introduced stoneware bisque and discussed it with customers - all were excited to hear that this bisque can go in the microwave."

Lisa and Dolena are starting modestly - offering 3 bisque items and a dozen or so stoneware glazes. They held an introductory class which drew several attendees. They created a display in the front of their store, which has attracted walk-in sales.

"We're not promising the same turn-around time as we do with earthenware projects (1 week).  We think we'll fire stoneware 2x per month - as of this moment."
