In February 2016, Mayco celebrated the 15th anniversary of its award-wining educational event, Pottery Camp, in San Antonio and what an experience! Over 90 studios representing 32 states attended our highly acclaimed event. Pottery Camp is a two-day educational event intended for PYOP studio owners and their staff. We update studios on new product usage, share design and application techniques and discuss best practices for a retail studio.

A Friday night cocktail party alongside the Riverwalk complete with Make & Take projects served as a fun-filled kickoff for the festivities. Studio owners and managers spent the weekend learning new techniques for working with Mayco glazes and Magic Metallics through fired and non-fired projects. Mayco’s Teddy Wright, Crista Toler, Laura Fraedrich along with Michael Harbridge from Royal Brush presented the projects.

Connie Speer, American Ceramic & Glass Supply, shared a retrospective on the ceramic industry that culminated in where we are today as a PYOP industry. It was a truly fascinating look at our history and our future. The Art of Profit’s Michelle Booth gave a marketing presentation that fed the minds and generated reminders of what studio owners can do to build their businesses through social media and unique contact with customers.

Saturday night took studio owners to an entirely different level of fun as we joined in the revelry at a celebration hosted by Chesapeake at Howl at the Moon. It was fun to see people getting to know each other and building connections in a different atmosphere.

Studio owners enjoyed the event and were thrilled with the projects and ideas garnered during the event. Here’s to 2017!
