Stoneware is both tough and beautiful - when fired to cone 6, stoneware bisque becomes vitreous and is impervious to water. This allows for the artist to leave exposed areas. Stoneware has a strong fired body, is chip resistant, and is capable of withstanding thermal-shock within an oven, microwave, dishwasher, or freezer.
