- Begin by rolling a slab 1/4" thick that measures 15x15" for the base.
- Roll slabs that are 1/8" thick for the pieces of the portrait. Allow all slab to dry to soft-leather to leather-hard. This will allow you to attach the portrait pieces without fear of sagging on the overhanging slab parts.
- Trace all of the pattern parts onto the slab and cut out the shapes using a knife.
- Follow the image and attach the parts in a layered fashion. Make sure to slip and score.
- Allow to dry slow and flat.
- Fire to cone 04 to bisque.
After piece is fired and taken from the kiln. - Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque hand built form. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
- Refer to the pattern for coloring the different parts of this piece. You will use SC-27 Sour Apple, SC-11 Blue Yonder, SC-33 Fruit of the Vine, SC-6 Sunkissed, SC-74 Hot Tamale, and SC-75 Orange-A-Peel. Use a CB-404 #4 Pointed Round brush on the smaller pieces and a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan brush for the larger sections.
