Instructions
Construction
- With a rolling pin, roll out a clay slab between 2 1/4" wooden slats.
- Cut out a 6"x6" tile out of the slab.
- Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of UG-50 Jet Black to the surface of the clay tile.
- Using a pencil, transfer the pattern to the tile with a pencil, pressing lightly.
- Using Xiem PSTS4C Carving Set and Xiem PSTS3DR Ribbon Tools, carve away the clay around the transferred designs.
- Slowly allow piece to dry completely.
- Fire the tile to shelf cone 04.
Glazing
- Using CB-404 #4 Pointed Round, apply UG-46 Bright Yellow, UG-22 Spring Green, UG-203 Squash Yellow to the snail's shell moving the brush in a clockwise rotation. Apply each color while the previous color is still wet to allow blending.
- Using CB-404 #4 Pointed Round, apply UG-208 Dragon Red and UG-87 Regal Purple to the head of the snail moving the brush in a clockwise rotation. Apply each color while the previous color is still wet to allow blending.
- Using CB-404 #4 Pointed Round, apply UG-87 Regal Purple and UG-3 Baby Blue to the background moving the brush in a vertical manor. Apply each color while the previous color is still wet to allow blending.
- Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06/05.
Final Glazing
- Using CB-404 #4 Pointed Round, apply 1 heavy coat of UG-50 Jet Black to the tile. Allow to slightly dry.
- Using a dampened BT-910 Synthetic Sponge, remove the previously applied UG-50 Jet Black, leaving partial color in between the rough surface.
- Allow to dry completely.
- Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 heavy coats of S-2101 Crystal Clear to the tile.
- Silt and Fire to shelf cone 06/05.
